At 5 North Inc., we believe in pushing those we work with to be their best selves. Each week, we will post tips on how to thrive in a work place setting. These tips will be directed toward all different aspects of our business, including but not limited to sales, marketing and management. Each week you will get a glance at the 5 North Inc. values that have led us to bread an extremely motivated, highly professional and successful sales team.
5 North Inc strongly emphasizes constant training and development for everyone on our team – from entry level to executive level. A very important part of being developed, is understanding what areas you need development in. This is usually hard for recent grads since after 4+ years of college we are led to believe that we are completely prepare to throw ourselves into the corporate world. But, unfortunately, there are many skills and attributes that most college classes have failed to cover.
Thus, the gap between college and the business world is a big one, and most college grads find that out the hard way. Jason Nazar wrote a great article about 20 things that recent college grads don’t realize – at least not until after a few years in the workforce without seeing the results they expected. (Here’s the full article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonnazar/2013/07/23/20-things-20-year-olds-dont-get/ ). This includes typical things like working hard and taking initiative (both which you probably have listed on your resume)…but success comes from actually doing these things.
The 5 North company culture is built upon these values. The idea that hard work thrives over talent, that a face to face interaction will always cause a bigger and better impact than an email, and that getting your butt kicked now is worth it considering the growth you’ll have later.
